This program begins when a child is 2 1⁄2 or 3 years old years old and is toileting independently. This covers the preschool and kindergarten years ages 2 1⁄2 thru 6 years. A certified Montessori teacher and teaching assistant provide lessons and guide children toward independent learning in a carefully prepared Montessori classroom designed to meet the learning needs of each child. This method of learning allows each child to develop confidence, respect for themselves and others and the world around them. The areas of learning include practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics and social science (geography, history, cultural studies and life science). Music, art, and physical education are also a regular part of the curriculum. Children remain with the same teachers for three years which provides for stability and consistency for the child. Children are admitted on a year-round basis as openings occur.

Montessori Children’s House- Nature’s Classroom  12:30pm – 3:00pm

This class has a certified Montessori teacher and teaching assistant in one of our regular Montessori classrooms. The core of the class is the same as above, a typical mixed age (2 1⁄2 - 6 years) Montessori curriculum with the added bonus of an environmental and recycling curriculum that runs throughout the year. We have a large fenced in outdoor classroom complete with numerous planting beds, benches and lots of space to explore. Additionally the class has a focus on cooking 1 day/week, music, physical education 1 day /week and Spanish 2 days /week.

Extended Day/ Kindergarten  12:30pm – 2:30pm

This afternoon program for 5 and 6 year olds is an extension of a Kindergartener’s Montessori Day. These children are in the mixed age classrooms in the morning and come together with the other 5 and 6 years olds in the afternoon for extended work with the Montessori materials. This gives them the opportunity to continue to work on the higher end materials uninterrupted, they can also work on projects that they did not finish in the morning and work on special projects designed specifically for this group. The class also prepares them for being with their peers all day and learning how to work out their relationships with their peers. The class also has Spanish 2 days/week.
